Welcome to St. John’s. We welcome you wherever you are on your spiritual journey.
We are many generations from a variety of religious backgrounds who have been attracted to a warm and welcoming parish community, to the beauty of the Anglican liturgy, and to a commitment to be God’s heart and hands in our region and the world.
Every single member of St. John’s is unique, and we know you are, too. In fact, we rejoice in our differences, and we thank God for them. But lists are fun, and since there’s some truth to generalizations, too, here is a partial list of types of people we welcome at St. John’s.
Whether you are single, married, divorced, or widowed, we welcome you. Whether you are straight, queer, questioning, cis or trans, we welcome you. Whether well-heeled, or down-at-the-heel, we welcome you. Whether you are white, black, brown, purple, or orange, we welcome you. Whether you are disabled or able-bodied, we welcome you.
We welcome wailing babies and excited toddlers, those over sixty but not grown up yet, and teens who are growing up too fast. We welcome you whether you sing like a nightingale or growl like a bear. We welcome sports fanatics, starving artists, bookworms, tree-huggers, latte sippers, vegetarians and junk food eaters. We welcome Rhodes Scholars, straight-C students, and people who flunked French three times. We welcome those who are in recovery and those who aren’t, those who are inked, pierced, or neither.
We welcome you if you feel fine, are down in the dumps, or just could use a prayer right now. We welcome you even if you don’t like organized religion; we’re not always fans either. We welcome you if you’re browsing for a church home, had religion shoved down your throat as a kid, are visiting Granny who wanted to come to St. John’s, or got lost on the Williams campus and wandered in by mistake.
We welcome you whether you’re a devout Christian or haven’t been to church since Easter thirty years ago. We welcome pilgrims, tourists, seekers, and skeptics – and you.
